About the event
Beginnings
This month at SiKumpanya, we’re screening the film Başlangıçlar, which has returned from international festivals with awards. What’s more, director Ozan Yoleri will be joining us after the screening!
The turmoil of one’s twenties, losses, coming to terms with the past and being able to start afresh…
Set in Istanbul, the story centres on Defne’s struggle to find herself whilst coming to terms with her past. This journey, which unfolds around an Ottoman painting, weaves a subtle tale of grief, memory, art and human relationships.
Ozan Yoleri’s debut feature film, Başlangıçlar, won the NETPAC Special Jury Prize at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, whilst at the 43rd Istanbul Film Festival it was awarded a Special Mention as part of the Seyfi Teoman Best First Film Award. The film’s lead actress, Ahsen Eroğlu, won the Best Actress Award at the Asti Film Festival in Italy.
On the evening of 26 November, we’ll be watching this film together. Afterwards, we’ll meet with the director, Ozan Yoleri, to discuss the film’s story, characters and creative process. We’ll ask any questions we have and have a chat about the film together.
Because sometimes a film continues to live on with us even after it has ended.
